Toshiba is a little late to the ultrabook party but better late than never right ? So currently we have the Acer S3, Asus ZENBOOK, Lenovo U300s and not forgetting Toshiba Z830 battling it out to be THE ultrabook of choice, for now at least.
Toshiba Protege Z830 is currently the lightest and thinnest 13.3″ Ultrabook around. Made from magnesium alloy (no cool brushed aluminum here unfortunately) which contributes to its 1.12kg weight. Don’t let the material fool you though, Toshiba claims that it can withstand up to 100KG of pressure which means if someone accidently sits on it, its not going to snap in half.
Despite measuring 15.9mm at its thickest point, it’s still thinner compared to the other Ultrabooks around, for now at least. However unlike the other ultrabooks the Protege Z830 doesn’t come with a large, clickable, glass-covered trackpad, instead you get a regular track pad with normal buttons. Reason for this ? Toshiba decided to include a fingerprint reader and chuck it in between the buttons making it ready for more secure enterprise roll outs.
Toshiba Protege Z830 Ultrabook specs:-
What makes the Protege Z830 so interesting would be the inclusion of full ports such as Ethernet (LAN), HDMI, VGA (a must for projectors), card reader which makes it a more complete ultrabook compared to the others. This means you can ditch all the extra accessories needed to make it work like a full fledged notebook.
It is also the only ultrabook currently to offer backlit keyboard and is spill resistant. Definitely a major plus point. One more important and interesting to note would be that it comes with an 8 cell battery which means longer battery life.
The Toshiba Protege Z830 is priced at RM 3,999 for the Core i5 model and RM 4,799 for the Core i7 model. Both come with 128GB SSD.
