We’ve previously had a sneak peak at Asus’s revolutionary product called the Padfone and now Asus has finally unveiled it in MWC 2012. What started out as a concept is now a developed product which will be making its debut in April. If this is the first time you’re hearing about Asus Padfone you’re in for a treat. It starts off as a smartphone that can be docked to become a full-fledged tablet. On top of that the device also comes with a Galaxy Note type stylus which doubles as a bluetooth headset.

The smartphone comes with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, Snapdragon’s new dual-core S4 chip, an Adreno 225 GPU, Ice Cream Sandwich and an 8-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and f/2.2 autofocusing lens, front camera records at VGA resolution. Other specs include 16 to 64GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD), Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, GPS, A-GPS, a gyroscope, 1,520mAh battery and a compass. Connectivity options include WCDMA (900, 2100 MHz), EDGE / GPRS / GSM (850, 1800 and 1900 MHz) and HSPA+, with theoretical download speeds topping out at 42Mbps.

We’ve all seen and heard about the Asus Transformer Prime and how docking it in the keyboard extends its life by almost double, well is no different with the Padfone. It can slide into the tablet dock and the Micro USB connects it for charging providing up to 5 times the battery life and voila you’ll get a fully fledged 10 inch tablet sporting 1280×800 resolution. Speaking of keyboard docks, ASUS will be selling one for this product, too, so that you can tuck that 10-inch phone-tablet into something with a full physical keyboard offering up to 9x more battery life.

Thanks to Ice Cream Sandwich the transition from phone to tablet is done seamlessly. What happens if you receive or want to make a call when the phone is in tablet mode ? Well there’s where the innovative stylus cum headset comes to play. It automatically activates when a calls comes in but there wasn’t any indication if it will be included with the tablet/phone or sold separately.

Asus is definitely changing the game and bringing convergence to the next level and we just can’t wait to get our hands on this little piece of gem.
