Ayutthaya is located in the valley of the Chao Phraya river and it used to be the capital of Siam and was recognised internationally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Few months back Ayutthaya was brought to attention all over the world for a whole different reason. The infamous Thailand flood which threatened to destroy most if not all of the city. It was an experience to see Ayutthaya on its own but to see the after effect of the flood was a whole different experience altogether.

Ayutthaya historical park covers the ruins of the old city and with its various wats/temples one can really get lost or overwhelmed by it all.

Various Wats in Ayutthaya

  • Wat Ratchaburana
  • Wat Mahathat
  • Wat Phra Sri Sanphet
  • Wat Phra Ram
  • Wat Lokayasutha
  • Wiharn Phra Mongkhon Bopit

Koh Larn Island and Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya, Thailand

Pattaya, a place where I’ve often heard many things about but have never been to. It is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 165 km southeast of Bangkok. Yet another unplanned trip but I was certainly glad we did go because the place was really awesome, at least the places we visited

Mention Pattaya as a destination and many people will cringe as the first thing that comes to mind is its red light district. Pattaya has a reputation as a tourist destination due to its booming sex industry and the resulting nightlife reflects this in many ways. Despite being illegal, prostitution can be seen rampant in certain areas around town especially in Walking Street.

First thing we did when we reached Pattaya was to check in to our hotel. We stayed in April Suites which is not located on Beach road or any of the nearby… Read more

Google+ gets update but on iOS only for now

Post Thumbnail of Google+ gets update but on iOS only for now

Google usually releases updates for their apps on the Android platform first causing many iPhone owners to wait for their turn. This time around the tables are turned and Android owners drool over the new Google+ that iOS owners are getting. Things like full bleed pictures, crisper sharp fonts, larger profile pics and a revamped home screen are on board. From the screenshot provided it looks a lot better than the previous version so Android owners will just have to wait their turn.

Now before you start sending out those hate mails, Vic Gundrota, Google senior VP, has already said the Android version is coming soon, with “a few extra surprises”. Hope that is good enough for Android users who use Google+ often. Hang in there, I’m sure to folks at Google will make it worth while.

Elephant camp and War Cemetery – Kanchanaburi Day 3

We decided to check out the nearest elephant camp which was Wangchang Elephant Camp. It is quite a sight to see these magnificent beasts up, close and personal. There were a lot of tourist buses around as well which I can only assume that this place is quite popular. There were almost 10 or more elephants around and some of them were quite big. There was of course the usual show which involves the elephant kicking the ball etc but we didn’t stop to check it out.

We did however manage to go for an elephant ride. This is the first time being so near to an elephant and the thought of climbing on one honestly scared me a little. It was quite an experience feeling every step that this animal takes. The mahout spoke some English and we managed to find out the age of the elephant we were riding,… Read more

Next morning we decided to do bamboo rafting on River Kwai. The wooden bamboo will be towed upstream for about 10-15 mins before being left to be swept by the currents heading back to the resort. Looking at the pictures we saw people jumping off the bamboo raft and floating in the river along side the raft. Definitely something we wanted to experience as well The whole thing takes about 30-40 mins and it was nice floating down the river, admiring mother nature.

Once back at the resort, we dried up/changed and made plans to head to Erawan waterfalls.… Read more

Trip to River Kwai Bridge and Hindad Hot Springs – Kanchanaburi Day 1

Kanchanaburi is certainly not the first thing that comes to mind when you mention Thailand to anyone except maybe history buffs. It’s made famous by the movie Bridge over River Kwai which was shot there. Situated roughly 120+ km away from Bangkok, it provides travelers a close enough getaway to escape the hustle and bustle  of Bangkok city.

I have to admit, it wasn’t even on my itinerary when I was planning my trip to Thailand but am certainly glad it got included while I was looking at places to visit near Bangkok. It boasts several well-known waterfalls, caves that was ones inhabited by Neolithic man, beautiful and pristine national parks, never-ending River Kwai, large reservoirs, temples, hotsprings, elephant camps and the rather controversial tiger temple. Kanchanaburi is certainly a place you don’t want to miss whether it’s fishing, rafting, canoeing, mountain biking, bird-watching, star-gazing, golfing, elephant and jungle trekking, or even living in a bamboo… Read more
